ARTIST STATEMENT

“Location/Lokasie” is a dance production about two South African men from the Cape Flats who are from the same family, on a journey of discovery. They are connected by blood, but separated by the lives of their fathers. This work is expressed through movement that is abstract and interpretive.

The work, filmed in various indoor and outdoor locations throughout the Cape Flats, gives the audience a raw outlook into the environment we live in.

Choreographed by Luke De Kock

Cast: Luke De Kock and Conway October

THIS WORK IS BASED ON...

Location/Lokasie is a virtual reimagining of the original live performance work performed at Youngblood Art Gallery (2018). The concept started as a dance production about individuals from different spaces who found themselves together on the same journey. It has developed into a work about two South African men from the Cape Flats (Bonteheuwel) who are from the same family, on a journey of discovering their shared history and the separation of ties through their fathers.
