Ore Phelele

Ore Phelele, in Sesotho, means to live, to live long and to live for us. The title of the project is inspired by Graca Machel’s comment to students at a UCT meeting and rally after the devastating murder and rape of Uyinene Mrwetyana. She had said to those in attendance, as they collectively mourned her passing that she wants them to “live, and live long”

Hi

I trust this email finds you well.  I am assisting a student with a complaint. They have indicated that they would like an appointment with a psychologist, but has been unable to secure an appointment.  They are at Hiddingh campus but have been told that there is no appointment for the next month.

They are available on Wednesdays before 10am, Thursdays between 11h30 and 1pm, and Fridays before 09h30, and again between 11h30 and 1pm.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards

Dear

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

There is only one psychologist at Hiddingh and, unfortunately, she is only available next month. I have attached a listing of our services on various other sites where the student is able to book via our online booking system.

We also have a psychiatric nurse that is bookable at the Ivan Toms Building.

Please let me know if the student is still not able to find an appointment.

Regards,

Hi Mamello

Further our consultation today, please see email below from Student Psychological Services.

Hi

Student Name: Mamello Makhetha

Student No: MKHMAM014

I hope that this email finds you well.

I was wondering if there had been an update from Ingrid regarding the availability of psychologist bookings available at the Mowbray centre.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Mamello

Hi Mamello

I hope this email finds you well. I have written to Ingrid again today and she replied with two possible time slots:
a half hour session at GSH at 11.30am today

the psychiatric nurse (at SWS main clinic) is available on Wednesday

Please let me as soon as you can as the available slots go quite quickly.

Mamello Makhetha

Hi

I hope this email finds you well.

I have been in discussion with ____  about steps that I would be comfortable moving forward with regarding my sexual assault with my fellow peer and student _____

Since our meeting, the cast and director of the production that he was a part of decided to not have him partake as a stage manager in the show, after conversation with me

He has also been dismissed from our theatre collective that is taking the same show to Makhanda Arts Festival next month.

I have given it quite some time to think about it and I have decided which available avenues I would like to take. The two that I feel would be best for me right now are the formal warning and the letter of apology that he would need to right.

I would like to know what the next steps would be for me to take.

Hope to hear from you soon

Mamello

Dear Mamello

I trust you are well.  Thanks for letting me know what options you have chosen.

I will inform the Relations Strategist of your decision for execution.

I will be in contact with an update.

Warm regards

Dear  Mamello

In the last few days we have been confronted with sexual and gender violence, and I am sure that it has been very triggering for you.  I cannot imagine how it may be affecting you, but want to remind you of our psychological services that are available from Student Wellness (you may click on the link below).  You can also contact SADAG on Toll-free number: 0800 171 171 from a Telkom line (available 24 hours a day), or send an SMS to 31393 to request a call back, or email office@anxiety.org.za for a counsellor to call you back.

E-mail:

Hi

I received an email from you last month just reaching out in light of everything that has taken place.

I’m very appreciative of that communication.

I had made a decision with the options the OIC had given regarding sexual assault.

As per your last email with me you had stipulated that you would inform the relations strategist regarding the choices that I had made and keep me updated and informed, however that has not taken place yet.

I wanted to follow up with you and see if any decisions had been made regarding my report with the OIC yet?

Kind regards

Mamello

Dear Mamello

I hope you are well.  I would like to apologise to you for not providing feedback to you about your case at the time.  I could not remember why I didn’t give it to at the time, until I realised it was during the time that I was hospitalised and booked off sick for two weeks.

About your complaint-_____  met with _____ early June and was very remorseful about his actions and has written an apology. Kindly find attached letter.

I am deeply embarrassed for not being in contact you it earlier.

Warm regards
